Why Shouldn’t I Sell My Car at a Dealership? The way car dealerships get their money is by buying cars for very cheap then selling them for much more money. If you want to get as much money as you can for your car, don’t go to the dealership. When I decided to sell my car, I went to the dealership to get a quote from them. The amount they wanted to pay me for my car was less than half of the amount my car was worth. I then decided to sell my car to an individual and they paid me what my car was worth plus some extra for the condition of the car. The reason dealerships will not give you as much money is because they need to make their own money some how. If they bought cars at the valued price and sold them at the valued price, they would not make any money. When they buy cars from people, they basically tell them a set amount they are willing to pay. They don’t always need your car to sell so they will not negotiate too much. If someone is trying to buy a car, depending on their price range, they will look at a dealership. That is why they can mark up the price so much. Some people are willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a car. People tend to shop at dealerships when they want to buy a newer car. Little do they know that they could buy a newer car, for half the price, if they went looking online or in the newspaper. If you are considering selling your car to a dealership, keep in mind they might scam you out of your money. They can try and point out different negative points about your car that can knock the price down. Make sure your car is as nice looking as possible and everything runs great. If there is nothing wrong with your car, they cannot scam you out of your money. Another reason to sell your car to an individual instead of a dealership is because they are not always honest with their customers. They will buy a car that has multiple problems, not fix those problems, then turn around and sell the car. The good thing about selling your car to an individual is being able to be completely honest. If you had to make a repair or something doesn’t fully work, the buyer wants to know. Remember in order to get the most money out of your car, sell it to an individual, not a dealership. |
